Belated Friday Finishes

Friday Finishes is a chance to look back over the week, and recap what I finished. To be clear, a finish could be something as small as “I finished cutting the fabric” or as big as “I finished alllllll of the quilts this week.” All finishes matter, because all are part of the quilting journey.

Dinosaurs!

The Dinosaurs quilt, which was designed by Elizabeth Hartman, was on my UFO list. It kept staring at me, making me anxious, so I pulled it out and went to it. Most of the blocks were pieced already – only the Triceratops remained. I got them together, then made the executive decision to make 3 smaller lap quilts instead of 1 giant quilt. If I’d have made the decision BEFORE I cut out all the sashing and borders, the quilts would have been a slightly better size. Unfortunately, they’re slightly wider than they are long. Oh well – what are you gonna do? So, the 3 tops are together, I pieced backings for all 3, and ordered the binding fabric because I had to use what was already set aside to fill in for missing border pieces. I don’t have a plan for who these quilts will go to, but I’m sure whoever gets them will love them.

String Beans!

I know I said I wouldn’t do another quiltalong until more UFOs and pre-planned projects were completed, but my inner rebel needed something quick and off-plan to make. So, printed off Pat Sloan’s project page for her March block-a-day quiltalong, String Bean, grabbed some fabric and went to town.

The idea with this quiltalong is that you’re supposed to make one block a day. That kind of thing makes me nuts, so I just went through and made all the blocks. I didn’t have quite enough fabric to make 30 blocks, so 25 would have to do. The blocks are big, so I think it’ll be fine. I had to lay them out horizontally on my design wall due to spatial limitations, so tilt your head to see the quilt!
