How To Tell If You're An Average Quilter
We’re all raised to strive for perfection and excellence in the things we do. What if I told you that you don’t need to be particularly gifted or talented to make beautiful quilts? What if I told you that being and Average Quilter is wonderful? It might take some time to come to terms with your Averageness – let alone embrace it. Don’t be afraid! This website was made by an Average Quilter for other Average Quilters.
To help you decide if you’re just as Average as me, here’s a non-exhaustive list of Average Quilter traits:
- You have a fabric stash of any size, which you may or may not plan to use.
- You pet fabric. Habitually.
- You have said some not-nice things while quilting. You may have cried or bled, or both.
- You have no idea why you bought some of these tools, and you don’t know how to use them.
- You feel bad when you don’t have time to quilt.
- You have ever put off housework or cooking in favor of quilting.
- You’ve ever been worried over what the “quilt police” will say.
- You’ve ever spent too much on quilting supplies or services.
- You cut fabric up, sew it together, turn it into a sandwich, quilt it together, and then bind it. You might outsource some of these steps and that’s OK. If you’re lucky, you add a label.
- (Insert more traits here… I just ran out of clever ways to describe what quilters do, how they do it, and when they do it. Seriously… almost everyone who quilts is an Average Quilter)

Quilter
I'm Danielle - nice to meet you! I consider myself an average quilter. I gather fabrics to go with a pattern I like, then I put the top together. Sometimes I quilt by check, and other times I quilt it myself. I've quilted for most of my adult life, except for the few years where I focused on my education.
Wife and Dog Mom
I'm married to my high school sweetheart, Daniel. He's my favorite person in the whole world, and is supportive of all my crazy ideas. We have two rescue pups, both are seniors. Tuli is my charcoal grey pit bull who loves to be under quilts. Niner is my blonde lab/retriever mix who hates the rain.
Vacationer
There's nothing quite like a vacation! I travel often (pandemic-related breaks notwithstanding) and am always looking forward to the next getaway. I hike, sight see, shop, eat good food, people watch, and just enjoy seeing the beauty of our world.
